Frequently asked questions
What hours are you open?
Monday to Sunday, 7am to 10pm. We are not a 24/7 service.
How much does a jumpstart cost?
From €80 plus VAT, depending on the time, the vehicle and the area. Call 086 361 8091 for a price.
How quickly can you get to me?
Usually within 30 to 60 minutes. Call 086 361 8091 and we’ll give you a time.
What vehicles do you boost?
Cars, vans, jeeps, light commercials, motorbikes and tractors, plus 24v rigid and artic trucks.
Do you jumpstart electric cars?
Yes. Fully electric cars still use a regular 12V auxiliary battery to power up their systems, and if it goes flat the car won’t switch on. We boost that 12V battery only. See our EV jumpstart page.
What if it still won’t start after a boost?
Sometimes it’s not just the battery. Every vehicle is different, so we’ll advise you case by case. If it won’t start, the next step is getting it to a mechanic to find the fault, and our sister company Camel Tow Recovery can tow it to your nearest garage or one of your choice.
Why do batteries fail more in winter?
Cold slows the chemical reaction inside a battery, so it delivers less power just when a cold engine needs more to turn over. Winter also means more lights, wipers, heaters and demisters, plus more short trips that don’t give the battery time to recharge. AA Ireland says flat batteries are the most common cause of breakdowns, particularly in winter.
How cold does it need to be before my battery struggles?
There’s no single temperature. A battery gets weaker gradually as it gets colder, and Battery University notes a battery that gives 100% at 27°C typically delivers only about 50% at -18°C. A healthy battery usually copes with an Irish frost, but an old or weak one often shows up first on a cold morning with slow cranking or clicking.
Can you jumpstart diesel vans and trucks in the cold?
Yes. We boost 12V diesel cars and vans as well as 24V rigid and artic trucks. Diesels can be harder to start on a cold morning, so call 086 361 8091 and tell us what you’re driving.
Where do you cover?
Dublin and Wicklow, including places like Bray, Greystones, South Dublin and North Dublin. Call if you’re unsure and we’ll tell you straight away.
What should I tell you when I call?
Where you are, what vehicle you have and what it’s doing (clicking, slow cranking, or no power at all). That helps us bring the right kit.
Is it safe to jumpstart an electric car?
Yes, when it’s done on the 12V auxiliary battery the way the manufacturer intends. We only connect to the 12V battery or the 12V jump points, never to the high-voltage system. Some EVs have specific jump-start instructions in the handbook, so tell us the make and model when you call.
Can you charge my main EV battery?
No. We boost the 12V battery only. We do not charge the main battery of an EV. If needed, the car can be towed to a charging point, but that’s not something Jumpstart Service does directly.
What if the main battery is flat?
A boost won’t help if the main battery is flat. We do not charge the main battery of an EV. If needed, the car can be towed to a charging point, but that’s not something Jumpstart Service does directly.
